Kieron Hounslow

Director – BEng (Hons) CEng MIStructE

Based in our Chorley office I have been a structural engineer now for over 35 years having grown within the Thomas Consulting team from a graduate to director specialising in structural design of highway structures, foundations, masonry, timber, steel and concrete structures and more recently providing technical guidance within expert witness cases. I manage a team within the Chorley office and work closely with our Shrewsbury Office expanding the business within the West Midlands.

When I am not working; I suffer the pains of being an Accrington Stanley season ticket holder. I have been afflicted by this for 35 years now, but one bright spot in the journey involved travelling with the team to Barbados in 1995. I also like to read and travel.

Phil Howden

Director – BEng(Hons) CEng FICE FIStructE IMaPs

I have been a business owner in Thomas Consulting now for over 15 years. I’ve specialised in Structural Engineering with over 40 years’ experience in the Residential, Industrial, Nuclear and Defence sectors.

I am a Chartered Civil and Chartered Structural Engineer, a Fellow of ICE and IStructE, I have worked with the Lancashire and Cheshire Regional Group for over 15 years, and in the Past  IStructE Committee Chairman and a current member of the Professional Review Interview panel, appraising young engineers aspiring to be Chartered Engineer status as an IStructE and MIStructE.

Outside of the work environment I am a keen F1 and Motor Racing fan, enjoying walking, campervanning and going to the pub!

Paul Bailey

Director – BEng (Hons) CEng MIStructE

Over my 30-year career in structural engineering, I have worked tirelessly to develop a role as a trusted advisor and problem-solver for our clients. As a company director, my responsibilities extend beyond the technical, encompassing strategic leadership and a hands-on approach to client relations. My extensive background in finite element analysis and computer-aided design in steel, concrete, timber, and masonry, has enabled me to guide clients through some of their most technically challenging projects. I take pride in offering solutions that are innovative, practical, and tailored to the unique needs of each project.

My main goal is to provide clients with solutions that are not only structurally sound but also cost-effective and forward-thinking. I place a strong emphasis on client communication, ensuring that they are supported and informed throughout the lifecycle of their projects. Doing so has led to fostering strong, enduring client relationships, some of whom I now regard as friends.

Beyond my professional life, I have a strong passion for writing and spending time gardening which offers relaxation and connection to nature. I enjoy an active lifestyle and can often be found walking over the Pennines in beautiful Lancashire.

Steve Bridges

Director – BSc (Hons) CEng FICE

I am a Chartered Engineer with over 22 years’ experience within the construction industry. I manage the Lancaster Office including time and budgetary management of Chartered, Senior, Graduate Engineers and Technicians.

I work within the Nuclear Industry and specialise in the Seismic analysis of existing and new build structures being also heavily involved with the design of typical steel and concrete framed structures.
My role as Director includes continuously improving the business and services we offer by procuring new clients and developing the team to meet the clients requirements.

Outside of work I enjoy watching F1, spending time with my family and going on holiday.

Julian Pearson

Director – BSc (Hons) CEng C.WEM MICE MCIWEM MCIHT

I am a chartered engineer with both CIWEM and ICE and have over 10 years’ experience within the construction industry. I manage the civil engineering team across our four offices and typically manage projects throughout the entire project lifecycle from pre-planning to handover. I have in depth knowledge on current legislation and planning management, whilst operating across a number of sectors such as renewable fuel, nuclear, defence and housing to name a few.

Outside of work I enjoy keeping active with my running and cycling.

Mike Hooper

Commercial Director – CEng MIStructE MICE MCIHT MAE

My working life began as a structural steelwork designer with a busy Structural Steelwork Fabricator based in the Northwest and Yorkshire. I developed further as an Engineer working for Local Authorities undertaking designs in drainage and highway departments and then for consultants preparing structural designs for all markets including the nuclear sector.

I joined Thomas Consulting in 2022 and as a Board Member I bring a wealth of commercial and financial acumen from my previous Financial and Commercial Director role with a multinational consulting engineering company.

I am a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Structural Engineers, Institution of Civil Engineers and am also a Member of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and a Member of the Academy of Experts. I am committed to the promotion and well-being of Professional Institutions and am an active committee member of the Lancashire and Cheshire Regional Group of the Institution of Structural Engineers.

Whilst my home and immediate family are very much in the Northwest my roots are anchored in the Northeast so I regularly ‘suffer’ as a lifelong Sunderland supporter.

Daniel Fryer

Director

As an experienced Consulting Engineer with 30 years in the Construction industry, with an extensive knowledge of refurbishment and new build projects. I am pleased to have joined Thomas Consulting in 2023 as a Director of the London Office to assist in the business’s national expansion in Civil and Structural design Services.

With a retained and varying client base for the past 25 years working nationally throughout the UK primarily in the residential and banking sector it has been a rewarding journey. From starting my career at my first consultancy in central London in the early 1990’s as a draughtsman/reinforced concrete detailer.

I consider myself to be a strong leader whilst working as part of a team, always diligent and conscientious in my decision making.

Diane Brown

Regional Director – BA Assoc CIPD

I have worked at Thomas Consulting now for nine years focusing on providing the technical team with the resources they need to deliver our services to our client base in a timely efficient manner.

My role is people centric managing the Business Support team across all the offices Chorley, Shrewsbury, Lancaster and London. As a team we are continually looking at improvements to our processes and procedures to improve efficiency whilst delivering the best possible solution to our clients and suppliers.

Outside of work I enjoy walking my 4 mini schnauzers Misty, Miska, Macy & Lilly (a bit of a handful) but unsure at times who is walking who….

Seb Warren

Associate – MSc

I started with Thomas Consulting as a school leaver in 2006 and progressed steadily with the support of the company into my current position as Associate. I am an enthusiastic engineer with a strong work ethic, that endeavors to produce smart, well thought-out schemes for clients. I enjoy working on projects of all sizes, whether this be advising on minor structural alterations to a residential extension or working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a large scale commercial development. Whatever the project scale, I most enjoy meeting with clients and developing a personal approach to project delivery.

My design experience includes a wide variety sectors including residential, educational and defence. I have completed many projects across the North-West, including complex new-builds and challenging refurbishment work of existing structures. Within TC, my other responsibilities include managing office workload and supporting the Directors in the development of the new clients.

When I’m not working you’re most likely to find me outdoors, either on the golf course or out walking with my family and dog. I also love cooking, so always keen to learn new techniques and buy kitchen gadgets.

Chris Redman

Associate – IEng MICE

I am a Structural Engineer and I have worked for Thomas Consulting for over 10 years based in the Lancaster office where I manage the expanding structures team. I am an incorporated member of the Institute of Civil Engineers and have experience working in various sectors including defence, nuclear, education, sports and leisure and residential.

Having recently been promoted to Associate I contribute to the commercial side of the business and work with the management team.

My family keep me busy in my spare time and we enjoy skiing holidays with friends and family. I enjoy other sports here in the UK and I have been a member of my local Cricket Club for over 20 years.

Iestyn Williams

Associate – BEng (Hons) CEng MICE

I am a Chartered Engineer with over 18 years’ industry experience, based in the Shrewsbury office where I lead the Structures team responsible for design and specification works, as well as structural property inspections.

Prior to this I have been Lead Engineer and Project Manager for an extensive range of structures projects in consultancies across North Wales and North West England. Schemes include new-build and refurbishment projects across a wide range of sectors including domestic, education, health, commercial, heritage, industrial, retail and leisure

When not at work, I like to relax by enjoying walking the Shropshire countryside with my wife and over-enthusiastic Labrador. When the weather does not allow the walks to happen then I like to experience the vast array of dining establishments available in the area, always trying new venues and making recommendations to colleagues and friends.

Sharon Roscoe

Finance Manager

I have been working at Thomas Consulting now for just over 5 years as the Finance Manager based at our Head Office in Chorley, I have worked within Finance for over 20 years’ across many sectors including Retail, Telecommunications, and Distribution.

Working with the Business Support team I have played an integral part in reducing costs across the business and streamlining processes and procedures to improve efficiency and play our part as a business in being environmentally responsible.

Outside of work I enjoy many things including Musical Theatre (with the girls), Karaoke who doesn’t love a good sing song, travelling and taking my Labrador, Dave, out on his many walks.
