Thomas Consulting are celebrating 45 years in business this year and have five offices across the UK – Chorley (Head Office), Lancaster City Centre, Liverpool City Centre, Central London and Shrewsbury. London and Liverpool offices have opened in the last 18 months due to the growth in both clients and workload.
As a result of the continued growth we are looking for a full time Business Support Assistant to join our team in our Central London Office. This is a full time, permanent position working Monday to Friday 9 am – 5 pm in a well-established fast growing Civil & Structural Engineering Practice. We are offering a competitive salary based on the applicant’s experience.
Members of the Business Support team are in each of our offices and are there to provide support to the Technical Team and Directors to deliver projects in an efficient and timely manner, whilst maintaining our standards in accordance with our ISO & industry accreditations.
The successful candidate will report to the Business Support Manager who is based at our Shrewsbury office and they will contribute to the overall success of the business on a daily basis. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop within the business to enable the business to achieve the ongoing demands within the industry.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Day to day project administration (including drafting of quotes, reports, booking of appointments, liaising with clients)
- Transcribing of dictation after site visits
- Updating project management software
- Managing project budgets and arranging of invoices to be raised
- Monitoring payments received against projects
- Providing information to the Directors for management meetings on a monthly basis
- Day to day management of the office environment (including telephones, stationery)
Essential Experience
- A minimum of 5 years experience of working in an office environment
- Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Powerpoint
- Organisation of own time and others (including arranging client and internal meetings)
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Excellent time management skills
- Demonstrate working within a Team
- Self-Motivated
- Strong analytical skills

Civil Project Engineer, Lancaster

About the position
The role involves working within an established team including Graduate Engineers, Engineering Technicians, Project Engineers, Chartered Engineers, and Directors sharing work across our five offices. The team are continuously developing their skillsets to fulfill the needs and demands of our clients, and business goals. Although the candidate will be based in Lancaster, there are members of the Civils team based in each office and work closely together with weekly meetings on Teams to discuss the ongoing and ever-growing workload. Each engineer has several projects and clients that need managing at any one time.

About the candidate we are seeking
The successful candidate will be required to ensure best practices are applied within the office and to assist the Directors with improving design services and operational efficiency.

Essential Experience required
- Minimum three years’ UK based work place experience within Highways and Drainage design
- Proficient use of AutoCAD, Site3D and Causeway Flow or equivalent design software
- Producing detailed drainage and highway calculations and sketches
- Following principals outlined in CIRIA design guides, BRE digest, BS EN 752 and the Design and Construction Guidance
- Working experience within the adoptable standards Section 278, Section 38 and 104
- Commercial awareness of costing and budgets
- Report writing
- Site visits to verify construction complies with construction drawings
- Preparing Specifications
