Capernwray Dive Centre

Capernwray (Dive Centre) which involved the proposal of 19 new holiday lodges overlooking the quarry.

We were appointed by the client to propose a surface water drainage strategy for the entire access road (approx. 325m length) and the new lodges. We proposed permeable paving covering the entire access road. But, because the road is extremely steep (around a 1:20 average gradient, downhill from east to west) this meant that much of the water infiltrated through the paving had the potential to travel down the road within the sub base and end up flooding at the area where the paving stops which would be at the entrance in the top left corner of the drawing above.

To work around the issue, we have proposed check dams beneath the surface within the permeable paving makeup which will look similar to this drawing. This means that the dams will stop any water running downhill and flooding at the entrance point, allowing the water to infiltrate within separate sections along the road.

If you require a surface water drainage strategy, please do not hesitate to contact one of our offices. As you can see, we love investigating and providing a solution.
