Responsible to: Senior Structural Engineer
Role Purpose
To work effectively as a Structural Engineer, you are required to work as a member of the design team to develop schemes, design, co-ordinate, and draw. You must successfully prepare accurate and appropriate designs and identify/co-ordinate risks and options with colleagues. The role requires demonstrable excellent communication skills, adaptability in the application of knowledge gained to date, and a strong willingness to learn.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Apply and develop your knowledge of structural analysis and design using common engineering materials including concrete, steel, masonry, timber, etc., together with soils, foundations and the principles of drainage systems
- Prepare design calculations, drawings, and reports under the supervision of a Senior Engineer and in a form that can readily be checked by another member of staff
- Apply Eurocodes, British Standards, current Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) Regulations, and other design codes/information as appropriate
- Support Senior Engineers in project designs from commencement to completion
- Produce clear, hand-drawn sketches with annotations as necessary
- Undertake site inspections with supervision from senior staff as required
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with team members, clients, and other construction professionals in relation to projects
- Attend meetings with senior colleagues
- Keep your professional development up to date with IPD/CPD expectations and/or requirements for Graduate Membership of the IStructE and/or ICE
- Work towards your Chartership with the support of your mentor and colleagues in a regular and systematic manner
Software Capabilities
- AutoCAD, Tekla, REVIT, and Bluebeam
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
Education Requirements
- BEng/MEng or equivalent degree from a JBM-accredited course in Civil Engineering or an associated subject
- Ability to successfully complete the IStructE Certificate of Structural Behaviour
- A minimum of 3 years of experience post-graduation.
