Thomas Consulting was approached by Pepperl and Fuchs, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of instrumentation, when they wanted to modernise and improve their present centre for European Operations in Oldham.
Thomas Consulting already had a strong working relationship with Pepperl & Fuchs. The existing premises had originally been designed as a light engineering workshop with offices at first floor level. Changes in business had meant that the workshops were no longer required and the client’s distribution and service centre requirements had expanded.
Recognising client needs
Our client needed to expand their office accommodation but were also seeking to improve the standard to class 1 office level. The existing building therefore needed a complete refurbishment to match our client’s high technology and 21st century image.
Thomas Consulting worked closely with the appointed architect and provided structural engineering designs to allow a complete new entrance to be constructed with atrium and “break out” external balcony. The alterations required removal of part of the first floor slab, new staircase and additional structural steelwork to the existing steel framed building.
A modern open and inviting appearance was achieved that will no doubt impress the international visitors to the premises.
