WREKIN HOUSING TRUST

Thomas Consulting were appointed to design the prestigious new head offices for The Wrekin Housing Trust in the centre of Telford in Shropshire.

The project required a full steelwork frame superstructure design which also encompassed a circular tower and a large full height glazed screen entrance.

The steel frame of the glazed entrance is fully visible within the buildings lobby;  therefore this required a visually appealing design, in terms of the structural arrangements.

Thomas Consulting’s solution was to adopt lightweight hollow steel sections and curved beams to support the lateral loadings. The main structural element in the screen consists of tubular ladder girders which span the full height of the building.

The design also required the construction of an independent glazed roof canopy, which is designed and detailed to complement the adjacent screen.
