Project Description

The steeply sloping site was for a residential development of 43 plots. The lower areas of the site are within Flood Zone 3, the access road was developed so that it remained out of the flood levels for safe access and compensatory storage was provided as part of the development.

The site conditions are not suitable for infiltration, therefore under the hierarchy of sustainable urban drainage (SuDS) principles the surface water discharge is collected in swales and discharges to the watercourse. Check dams were detailed in the swales to provide attenuation and to slow flows. Foul water is collected and pumped to the main sewers.

We also undertook the highway design of the ghost island junction off Woodcote Way and the traffic calming features on site.
