Project Description

Rolls Royce required transportation of a Nuclear Flask from the Dounreay Site to Sellafield. The flask was to be transported for the majority of the journey by Rail, however, the first 25 miles needed to be by road to the nearest Rail Head. Rolls Royce contacted Steadplan Ltd to supply a Kassborhrer Road Trailer.

The Flask is transported in a bespoke stillage frame, specially fabricated for transport on a Rail Carriage Chassis. As part of their Contract, to Rolls Royce, Steadplan Ltd were required to fabricate and supply an adapter frame between the Flask Stillage and the Road Trailer.

Thomas Consulting have extensive experience in the design of Nuclear Fuel transportation systems and we were engaged to design and detail the Adapter Frame. The design report was technically reviewed and Approved By Rolls Royce.
